Der Druck „IL PRIMO LIBRO DELLE SONATE DI CHITTARA SPAGNOLA “ (Milano, 1671) von Michele Platano mit insgesamt 10 Sonaten für die fünfchörige Barockgitarre wurde erst vor einigen Jahren von Michael Freimuth im österreichischen Staatsarchiv (Wien) entdeckt. Sowohl Platano als auch sein „Primo Libro“ waren bis dahin in Musiker- und Forscherkreisen völlig unbekannt. Die Sonaten sind musikalisch sehr ansprechend, und technisch von mittlerer Schwierigkeit. Acht Sonaten sind in Standard-Gitarrenstimmung, zwei erfordern unterschiedliche Skordaturen. Die einzelnen Stücke sind fast überwiegend Unikate, von denen keine Konkordanzen in anderen Drucken oder Manuskripten bekannt sind.
Diese Neuausgabe von Platanos „Libro Primo“ und seiner zehn bislang unbekannten Sonaten daraus dürfte sicher eine willkommene Bereicherung für das Repertoire der Barockgitarre darstellen.

Michele Platano as well as his „Libro Primo“ were com- pletely unknown to musicians and scholars until now. The music is pleasing and not to difficult to play. Eight sonatas are written in standard guitar tuning, two sonatas ask for scordaturas. Most of the single pieces are unique and without concordances in other manuscripts or printings. This new edition of Platano’s „Libro Primo“ is certainly welcome as an enrichment of the musical repertoire for baroque guitar.
