Die „Romance des temps modernes“ beginnt mit einer von ausdrucksstarken tonalen Farben begleiteten Melodie, die mit ihrem ungestümen und schmerzvollen Charakter eine Hommage an die Romantiker des 19. Jahrhunderts darstellt. Anschließend bewegt sich das Werk in etwas zeitgenössischere modale Richtung und findet langsam zur Ruhe.

Starting as an accompanied tune with a strong tonal sound, «Romance of modern times» can be defined as a tribute to the 19th century Romantics because of its impetuous and painful character. It then evolves toward a more modal atmosphere, until it finally calms down with much sensitivity.
