A fantasy on Christmas themes for piano , four hands. Christmas Mudley was written for a seasonal broadcast of At the Piano, a long-running solo piano recital slot broadcast by BBC Radio 2, and usually pre-recorded in the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios. On that particular occasion, I invited my friend and colleague John Alley to join me, playing a second piano. This festive fantasy was therefore written for two pianos with each pianist doubling on celeste, when required. Since then, Christmas Mudley has been arranged for many different forces. These include piano-duet, two pianos, piano and brass quintet, brass quintet, concert band, symphony orchestra and brass band. The brass quintet version is recorded on the CD A Windy Christmas, available on the Herald label; HAVPCD410.
