Aquila – Synthetic strings F-Red Series
The F-Red Series are the new synthetic strings for bowed instruments, developed by Aquila Corde Armoniche as a valid alternative to natural gut. They are made with plant-derived plastics, including a sugar-cane compound that was recently discovered in Italy. Wound strings use varnished copper wire instead of silver-plated copper.
Eco-sustainable, stable in intonation and durable, the sets have been designed for the following instruments:
- Violin, Violoncello, Bass Gamba (two degrees of tension)
- Viola, Violone in G, Tenor Gamba, Treble Gamba (one single degree of tension)
Notice:
- to avoid damages, do not cut the strings; in case you want to shorten them, first spread some quick glue around the point where you want to cut;
- once installed, before you start playing them, it’s important to apply some rosin on the portion of the string that will come into contact with the bow.
La tirata
“Tirata” is a term used by string makers of the great Italian tradition. It represented the “tiro”, i.e. the length of string that was sufficient for the desired instrument. We decided to reintroduce it in our vocabulary to specify the length of the strings, which will no longer be indicated in centimeters.
For example, 120 cm correspond to 2 string lengths on a violin (2 “tirate”), but 1 string length on a cello (1 “tirata”), and so on.
