The great 17th-century philosopher Rene Descartes visited Stockholm from October 1649 until February 1650 on the invitation of Christina, Queen of Sweden. The suite presented here depicts Descartes’ visit. The initial version was written for descant and bass recorder, with one for the flute added later.
