Christmas Mudley was written for a seasonal broadcast of the Radio 2 programme “At the Piano” which was pre-recorded in the BBC’s Maida Vale Studio 2. On that occasion it was more like ‘At the Pianos’ as I was joined by co-pianist, John Alley. This festive fantasy was written for two pianos with each player also playing a celeste when required. It has subsequently been arranged for various forces including brass quintet, piano and brass quintet, piano and concert band, piano and orchestra, piano duet and wind quintet. A recording of the version for brass quintet, played by Chaconne Brass, is available on the CD A Windy Christmas HAVPCD410.
