This Revised Augener edition of Chopin’s solo Polonaises contains all those given opus numbers and published during the composer’s lifetime. The earlier Augener edition was made in the late 19th century and acquired many variant readings and fingerings not present in the autographs or first printed editions.
Although a ‘definitive’ edition of Chopin’s intentions is well-nigh impossible, the sources on which this revision is based are given in the text and significant variants are noted at the foot of each page.
